PRESCHOOL DISCIPLINE GUIDELINES
The
staff agrees to guide a child to learn self-control as evidenced in
appropriate behavior through the following methods.
1.
Positive reinforcement of appropriate behavior through praise
and/or rewards.
2.
By distracting and/or removing the child to another work/play
area.
3.
By having the child sit-out an activity or deny a privileged
activity.
4.
By allowing children to earn special privileges through
increased responsibilities in work and play relationships.
5.
By isolation of the child from the group with another teacher
for a brief period.
6.
By training the child to accept responsibility for natural
consequences of their own mishaps spills, etc.
7.
By restraining the child physically to prevent an injury, by
holding the child in your lap during a temper tantrum if necessary.
8.
Through reminders to the child at eye level of correct
behavior through soft spoken, simple language.
9.
By affirming a child’s self-worth and strengths in daily
tasks.
10.
Through setting examples for young children through love and
respect for each child and each employee’s personality.
11.
By expecting honest information exchange between parent and
teacher concerning the child’s behavior at home, school, and at the
Center.
12.
The PLC personnel are authorized to administer the above
corrective discipline for inappropriate behavior. Inappropriate
behavior will be brought to the parent’s attention through incident
reports. If the behavior does not improve after repeated corrective
discipline, the parent will be notified by phone. The parent will
come to the Center immediately and sign-out the child from the care
of the facility if necessary and remove them from the Center. The
child may return to class after disciplinary action by the parent.
A total of three calls to the parent for corrective discipline could
result in dismissal of the child from the Center with loss of
tuition credit.
13.
Repeated biting by a toddler/two year old will be addressed
seriously to initiate parent intervention, resulting in suspension
of the child if all other avenues of guidance fail to reverse biting
behavior.
14.
Under no circumstances will physical punishment be
administered by the Center.
