Reverend Dick Hamel

Minister of Music

The Music Ministry of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church is under the leadership of Rev. Richard C. (Dick) Hamel. Dick was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. At the age of 19, he accepted God’s call to full time Christian service in the area of music and worship leadership. Dick holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sacred Music and Music Theory from Palm Beach Atlantic College. He has served Florida Baptist Churches in the area of Music and Youth ministries for the past 33 years.

Dick has been married to his best friend, Valerie Lynn Simms Hamel, for 33 years. Valerie graduated from Barry University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and from Palm Beach Atlantic College with a Master’s in Human Resource Development. She is presently a nursing leader with Beverly Enterprises. Dick and Valerie have two precious adult children, Amy and Matthew. Amy and Matt have been part of the Hamel ministry since before they could read and are currently sharing the love of Christ with their colleagues in the theatre industry.

Brother Dick only has three requirements to become a part of the growing music ministry at MGBC...

You must be able to read and write your own name (waived for preschool choir).
You must be able to count to four (also waived for preschool choir).
You must have a God given desire to lead in the worship experience (in other words, you gotta want to be there).
