Audio & Video formats for our services and other excerpts of our services as of Sept 2006

Audio:  An audio player ( "juke box " ) has been installed on the site for each month starting in September and as time permits going back and also for future months.

Clicking a link for a selection will take you to the player where the file is located in chronological order from the first of the month to the end of the month and then in alphabetical order by the week.

Note:  If you get a blank and/or a blank black screen re-load or refresh the page and the player should open.

Example:

100106 Pastor Ron Lentine - Discipleship               would be the file at the top of the player - -   then

100806 Pastor Ron Lentine - How God Uses People would be the next file

101506 Rev Ron Pouliot - Upward Basketball

and so on... the files are date sorted first.  If there is more than one file with the same date then following the date the are done alphabetically.

Again, If you click on a link and you get a "blank" black page (no player) then hit refresh, renew, go (reload the page) and the player should appear.

Play with the buttons, select different files, you can start, stop, resume at different places depending on your connection speed.

Requirements for the player:  Flash - That's it.

in most cases there is nothing to install, no software to configure, no settings to make.  The free Flash player is used by about 98% of computer users.

If you do not have Flash installed on your computer you will be prompted to download it.   There may be times that you are prompted to download a new version of Flash - that is your choice.

Connection Speed and the files:  Any connection speed will work -  it will take dial-up connections some time for the file to start playing.

Why the changes?

Audio files have been formatted in Windows Media Audio (WMA), Flash Audio and MP3.  Each of these files had to be produced separately from the master file, uploaded to the server and links made (sometimes with errors).  The Audio Player uses mp3 format for the files and rather than have a page for each flash audio file they can now be embedded into the player for a particular month.

As far as WMA format goes - this was considered to be a duplication of efforts.  The stand alone mp3 format was also a duplication of effort.

There may be different "skins" and other features added to the player's) in the future.

Video:  Video files take a huge amount of server space and are only viewable (with any quality) if you have fast access.  They are also meant to be played in the window size they open in.  Enlarging the window/player degrades the quality.

Previous files (they will not be re-worked) have been made to play at 256kps - which is pretty good.  Starting with the selections for the week of Sept 10, 2006 they are formatted to play at 384kps - sometimes higher (actual playing speed depends on a number of factors that may be explained later).

This should improve both the video and audio quality as there is less compression when the file is made.

Due to the larger file size you may experience buffering - if that happens you can click the pause key and wait for it to "catch up" and get ahead.

With more video being offered online and looking at the manner in which they are formatted this is more in line with what is happening in the online world.

Formats:  We have been using both Windows Media Video and Flash Video for the sermons/messages and Widows Media Video for the Selections.   Soon we are going to make a choice as to one or the other - and we are leaning toward Flash Video.

Change is a constant and nothing here is written in stone and all is subject to ..well change!

comments are always welcome along with ideas and such.....
