| If you clicked on "Help" the following window should have
opened: |
|

|
| Note: If you click on "Version Info" from this
window all the various codecs will be displayed. The "Check
for Update" tab will prompt you to download the most recent version (and
perhaps the one that you have to pay for). |
| |
| Now you will want to click on the "View" tab |
|

|
| Note: Notice the "speed" that the file is playing -
34kbps (if you are not connected at a "faster" rate than this you will
experience "buffering" |
| After you have clicked on "View" you should click on
"Preferences" from the drop down menu and the following window should
open: |
|

|
| The "General" tab is the one that is "Up" or open...
There is only one setting on this tab that needs to be adjusted & while it
has nothing to do with the way that Real Player performs it does affect
the way your computer performs. IF your computer has the Real Player
Icon on the task bar when you start up you are using 5 to 8% of your
resources from start-up! (Get a few of those and it is no wonder why
your computer is slow!). Unless you are constantly using Real Player
there is no reason for this to be running in the back ground. See
the blue Real Player icon in the next to the bottom of the graphic?
Click on the settings tab and this window will open:
|
|

|
| Uncheck the "Enable StartCenter" box - when you do the
following window will open: |
|

|
| See, Real Networks wants to push their product in your
face all the time - which is ok....unless you don't want it that way!
(They also want you to pay for and subscribe to their other services -
which is ok too...unless you don't want to).
Click "Yes" on this screen and then "OK" on the next screen (which is
the previous window with the "check-mark" removed.
To open Real Player without it being on the task bar, just click on any
Real Player file and the program will open.
