Amos G. Whetstone,
age 86, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005 in Orange Park, FL.
Amos was born January 27, 1919 in Elmore County, Titus, AL. He resided
in Pensacola, FL for over 60 years of his life, until moving to Orange
Park, FL. Amos
was retired from Civil Service with NADEP, NAS Pensacola and Wal-Mart.
He served in the U. S. Navy, was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and a Purple
Heart Recipient.
He coached baseball for over 25
years at the Myrtle Grove Youth Association.
Amos was a member and Deacon of
Myrtle Grove Baptist Church in
Pensacola, FL and was most recently a member of Hibernia Baptist Church
in Orange Park, FL.
Amos is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Whetstone; three
children, Linda Pritchard (Al) of Virginia Beach, VA, Nancy Gentry
(Keith) of Jacksonville, FL and David Whetstone (Dani) of Jacksonville,
FL; and five
grandchildren, Drew Gentry, Landon Gentry, Meg Pritchard, Matt Whetstone
and Allison Whetstone.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at
MyrtleGrove Baptist Church. Burial will be at Barrancas National
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the
Hibernia Baptist Church Building Fund, 2105 Park Avenue, Suite 12 Orange
Park, FL 32003.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
