CDR (Ret) Paul
Donald Walker, age 80, peacefully passed from this life on April 7,
2009.
Paul was born May 30, 1928 in Dover, New Hampshire and left school in
his senior year at Dover
High School to join the Navy on November 7, 1945.
Paul served 11
years as an enlisted man, advancing to Chief Petty Officer, and 17 years
as an officer, retiring 1 June 1973 as a Commander.
After graduating Cum Laude from the University of West Florida in 1976,
he became a teacher at the
high school level for 15 years, retiring in June of 1990.
He was preceded in death by his parents Catherine and Ralph Walker in
addition to his brother
Mickey and his sisters, Dotty and Evie.
He is survived by his lovely bride of 59 years, Mary Ann (Bicker) Walker
and daughters Pam Froom,
Tina Simpson and Stacey Bartkowski, and their husbands, Matt, Rob and
Scott, respectively, and
grandchildren Jason, Mallory, Dillon, Amy, Megan and Jack, all of
Pensacola; his sisters Kay Sabol
of Dover, New Hampshire and Honey Carroll of Anaheim, California.
He was a member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church and an avid golfer with
the Sandcrabs and Pen
Seekers.
He enjoyed many
social activities with Elks 2108, Krewe of LaFitte, and Karnival
Kavaliers.
A proud member of Pensacola
Chapter Florida Society of the Sons of American Revolution,
5 For Life, Red Cross Volunteer at the Naval Hospital and a 10 year
volunteer at the Emerald Coast
Senior Golf Tournament.
He was very
interested in the genealogy of his family for he once quoted Burke:
"They who never look back to their ancestors, will never look forward to
posterity."
Paul was dearly loved and respected and will be greatly missed by family
and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 10, 2009 at Oak Lawn
Funeral Home with visitation
starting at 10:00 a.m. and services at 11:00 a.m. followed by a
graveside burial ceremony at
Barrancas National Cemetery at 11:45 a.m.
Pallbearers will be immediate family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial
contribution to Emerald Coast
Hospice.
