Joseph C. “Joe” Taylor, age 73, of
Damascus, Virginia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday,
December 1, 2009 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol,
Tennessee.
He was a native of Elizabethton,
Tennessee and had lived in Pensacola, Florida for forty years prior to
moving to Damascus, Virginia in 2002.
He retired from Monsanto
Corporation in Pensacola, Florida and owned and operated his own Air
Conditioning and Heating Company for many years while living in Florida.
He was the proprietor of Taylor’s
Orchard in Damascus, Virginia.
Mr. Taylor was a former
deacon and member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida
and was currently a member of the First Baptist Church in Damascus,
Virginia. He loved and served the Lord his whole life.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Helen Taylor; one
daughter, Irene Knowles and her husband, Philip, of Pace, Florida; four
sons, Stan Taylor and his wife, Deborah, of Damascus, Virginia,
Johnathan Taylor and his wife, Dolores, of Cantonment, Florida, Mark
Taylor of Middleburg, Florida, and Gordon Taylor and his wife, Dina, of
Laurier, Washington; one sister, Patsy Keltner and her husband, Joe, of
Springfield, Missouri; one brother, Bill Taylor and his wife, Mildred,
of Kingsport, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren, Cindy, Karen, Tony,
Olivia, Brandon, Micah, Seth, Grace, Chloe, Simon, and Sky; one great
grandson, Ben; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 4,
2009 in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne
Guynn officiating.
The committal service and
interment will follow at 1:00 PM at Happy Valley Memorial Park in
Elizabethton, Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be the deacons of
First Baptist Church.
Honorary pallbearers will be his
Sunday school class at First Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends
from 6-8 PM Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Garrett Funeral Home.
