| Vernon Wesley Sharp, 71 died February 8, 2003 in a
local hospital.
Mr. Sharp was born in Syracuse, New York on February 27, 1931.
Mr. Sharp retired from the United States Navy as a Master Chief
Petty Officer in 1967. His service included assignments to the Command
Staff aboard the USS Fulton; Administrative Assistant to the Flag
Secretary, Chief of Naval Air Training, Pensacola, Florida; Administrative
Assistant to the Flag Secretary for the Commander in Chief, U.S. Naval
Forces-Europe, London, England; Assistant to the Admiral, Command Staff
and Assistant for the Top Secret Officer, Cruiser/Destroyer Flotilla Ten;
Administrative Aide to the Chief Naval Secretary, Military Advisory Group,
Pakistan; Administrative Assistant to the Officer in Charge, Bureau of
Naval Personnel Liaison's Office, Military Personnel Records Center. St.
Louis, Missouri; and as Senior Chief aboard the USS Boston.
Mr. Sharp was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ethel
Sharp, his wife, Caroline Stewart Sharp; stepson, Don Stewart; and seven
brothers and sisters.
Mr. Sharp is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Steenland, son
Charles Sharp; and son Steven Sharp and his wife Rhonda; all of Pensacola;
granddaughters Heather and Jessie Steenland; Stephanie and Victoria Sharp,
all of Pensacola; and Rachel and Michelle Sharp of Marianna;
Stepchildren Peggy Williams of San Jose, CA; Carol Hampton of
Sacramento, CA; and William Stewart of Mobile, AL; seven
step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren; two brothers Floyd
and Frank Sharp of New York; and sister Dorothy of Oklahoma.
A private memorial service will be conducted Thursday, February 13.
Internment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
National Flight Academy in care of the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation,
1750 Radford Blvd., Ste. B, Pensacola, FL 32508.
