Mrs. Frances
Mathis of Eufaula died Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Crowne Health Care
of Eufaula after an extended illness.
She was 88.
Graveside
services for Mrs. Mathis will be held at 2 P.M. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Dr. Ken Bush and
Rev. Richard Blevins will officiate with Kent Funeral Home of Eufaula
directing.
Visitation
will be held at Kent Funeral Home from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. before
services on Friday.
At other
times, the family will receive friends at the home of Peggy & Gerald
Woodham, 316 Pebble Beach Drive, Eufaula.
Born June
25, 1921 in Barbour County, Mrs. Mathis was the daughter of the late
Rufus and Emma Walker Smith.
She was preceded
in death by her husband of 55 years, Laston Mathis and a brother, Curtis
Smith.
Mrs. Mathis was a
member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was retired from West Point
Pepperell in Abbeville.
She enjoyed
working as a "Pink Lady" with the Ladies Auxiliary of Lakeview Community
Hospital (Medical Center Barbour) for many years.
Survivors
include two daughters and sons-in-law, Nell and Talmadge Adams,
Huntsville, and Peggy and Gerald Woodham, Eufaula; a brother and sister,
Winon Smith and Lodell Aplin both of Eufaula; five grandchildren,
Katherine (John) Traylor, Jerry (June) Wood-ham, Phillip (Lisa)
Wood-ham, Mike (Melodi) Adams and Carol (Chris) Larson and eleven great
grandchildren.
The family will
accept flowers or suggest that donations may be made to the Pleasant
Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, % Linda Buchanan, 2433 Calhoun Dr.,
Abbeville, AL 36310.
