Katerine “Kit” Lucas 1946-2012
Katherine "Kit" Sledge Lucas, was born on October 23, 1946 in the house she
was reared in on a farm in Moultrie, Georgia. On January 19, 2012, Kit exited her
physical expression upon this earth to return to the perfection of her spiritual self
in the heaven of her prayers. Greeting her there are her Lord and Savior and all
the loved ones of her previous life preceding her, the first of whom is her mother,
Eva Sledge, 'waiting on the bottom steps' of Heavenly Gates for the beginning of
her eternal life.
Kit is preceded in her death by her mother and farther, Eva and Joel Sledge, and
an older sister, Bobby Sledge, who died as a child. Kit leaves to cherish her life
and memory, her beloved husband of 47 glorious years, Samuel "Sam" E. Lucas,
Pensacola, her wonderful and adoring sister, Claudia "Jo" Ward (Jack) of
Savannah, Georgia, her daughter, Tina Lucas Sellers (David) of Pensacola, sons
Samuel "Sam, Jr." E. Lucas, Jr. (and special friend, Vickie) of St. Simons Island,
Georgia, and Jason (Ali) of New York City, New York, her grandchildren, Kyle
and Hanna Sellers, and Tesia Lucas, as well as a great grandchild, Madison.
Also surviving Kit are cherished special friends, Court and Ellen Guerin and
Claire and Caroline. Not to be forgotten, Kit also leaves behind her many pets
and rescues over the years, most recently and especially her labs.
Kit was a loving and dedicated wife and mother to her family (which always
included many pets), who always managed to make a warm home amidst the
numerous moves of a coast guard life. Kit was the glue in her family's life, helping
with anything from school projects (including chastising her daughter's
elementary school teacher in Cape Cod, Massachusetts for not recognizing a
model of an okra she had made for a school project), T ball coach, girl and cub
scout leader, an expert finisher of science projects, seamstress and dress maker.
Kit was the inspiration for her family and was so proud of them all. Always to be
remembered at holidays was her wonderful apples and cheese casserole.
Most recently (21 years) Kit was a part of the Mobile Highway Walmart Family
where she occupied many roles and formed many wonderful and lasting
friendships with her coworkers.
Kit's life motto was "Kill with Kindness". She was always ready to give of herself
when needed-from charity programs to giving hugs. Kit was one of those kind of
people -so rare- who was willing and eager to give an ear and share her life
stories in helping others with their difficulties in life.
Kit loved all animals, especially her labs, and riding horses. She never tired of
laughing with her sister "Jo", with whom she played goofy games and making
silly faces, to entertain themselves and family.
Although she 'took a lickin but kept on tickin', Kit recently heard the chorus of
angels calling her home and departed this life peacefully in the presence of
family. Kit was a member of the Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, where her
memorial service will be conducted at 2 pm on Monday, January 23, 2012. A
remembrance, celebration and sharing of Kit's life will take place at 1 pm
immediately prior to the memorial at the church as well.
In lieu of flowers, Kit and the family request that concerned and caring friends
perform an act of love and kindness for a stranger. Although a stranger on earth,
not a stranger in heaven.
