Emma Hattie Laura
Goss Heilman, 85, of Pensacola, passed away, Thursday, January 19, 2006.
Emma was born October 29, 1920 in San Diego, CA to Horace James Goss,
Sr. and Hattie Ida Hoffman Goss. She graduated Pensacola High School in
1938 and Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse
in 1941. Emma joined the Army Nurses Corps in July of 1942, attaining
the rank of Major, taking part in the war in England and Germany. After
the war, Emma became head of the hospital Pediatrics Department at
Tripoli Hospital in Hawaii, until her retirement in 1964. After she
retired she returned to Pensacola to enjoy life with Jerry, her husband,
and their beloved dog, Molly. Emma was a member of Myrtle Grove Baptist
Church and loved to sing in the church choir until her health stopped
her. She always had stories to tell. Emma was a member of the Order of
the Eastern Star for sixty-eight years, a life member of the Army Nurses
Corps, Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing and the Myrtle Grove
Women's Club.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald A. Heilman; father,
Horace James Goss, Sr.; mother, Hattie Goss; brothers, Horace J. Goss,
Jr. and his wife Wilma and Gene Goss and his wife Tiny.
She is survived by her nieces, Barbara (Larry) Driscoll, Pam (Bill)
Watts, Genie (John) Reed and Becki (Jim) Segers; 13 great nephews and
great nieces; 25 great great-nephews and great great-nieces and her
family from Homestead Village Building K.
Graveside services will be held at 1:15 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2006
at Barrancas National Cemetery.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday,
January 23, 2005 at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to everyone who
ministered and took time to talk with Aunt Em in her last days. Auntie
Em has found the yellow brick road at last.
