Doris C. Daly, 76, of Pensacola,
passed away on Friday, Aug. 13,
2004, following a courageous
battle with cancer.
She was born on Oct. 13, 1927,
in Robertsdale, Ala., to Albert
Brown and Lilly Crosby.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; sister, Miriam Crosby
Frilick from South Carolina;
brother, James W. Crosby from
Foley, Ala.
She is survived by her loving
husband of 54 years, Edward
Julian Daly; two daughters,
Sharlene M. Wingate (Boyd) and
Teresa D. Rutherford (Gerald) of
Pensacola; two sons, Steve A.
Daly of Pensacola and Edward J.
Daly III (Terri) from Anchorage,
Alaska; nine grandchildren and
one great grandchild.
Doris was a talented and caring
person who in her earlier years
taught ballet and tap dancing to
young children and was a former
nurse. She was widely known as a
poet and shared her love of
poetry by individualizing her
poems to those in need. She
shared her knowledge of poetry
with the students in several
schools in the community. In
1998, she was selected into the
International Poetry Hall of
Fame and was honored with a
reception and book signing at
Pensacola Junior College during
National Literary Week. The
college honored their faculty,
staff, and local authors who
have excelled in scholarship.
She wanted all to know that
poetry was the greatest love of
her life and a special gift from
God.
She was a member of the Myrtle
Grove Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Monday, Aug.
16, 2004, at Pensacola Memorial
Gardens, beginning at 12:30
p.m., with services following at
2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Ron
Pouliot officiating. Burial will
follow at Pensacola Memorial
Gardens. Pensacola Memorial
Gardens is in charge of
arrangements.
Pallbearers will be E.J. Daly,
Chris Daly, Billy Wingate, Greg
Rutherford, Jay Crosby and
Anthony Sosa.
A special thanks to Dr. Inclan
and staff, Dr. Rao, Dr. Wade, 3
West and Radiology at Baptist
Hospital, Southern Oaks Nursing
Home, the staff and volunteers
at Covenant Hospice (Joyce
Goldenberg Hospice Residence)
for taking such wonderful care
of her during this difficult
time.
