Marvin E Cumbie
went home to be with the Lord Sunday morning, June 7, 2009.
He was born in Tuscaloosa, AL to William C and Neely Cumbie on July 9,
1925.
Marvin was preceded in death by his Father and Mother and Sister
Margaret Lucille Nunley.
He is survived by his wife Juanita Salter-Cumbie, son Robert E Cumbie,
Sister Betty (David) Scurlock, Granddaughter Mindy (David) Hall, and
three Great-Grandsons - Chris, Kevin, and Shane Hall. Six Nephews -
Randy, Ritchie, and Robbie Scurlock; Nick, Ben, and Luke Nunley. One
Niece Isabella Nunley.
His extended family - Stepdaughters Raynette Skinner and Rannah Bunyard;
Stepson Bernie (Jeannie) Salter; Step-Granddaughter Keytha Skinner;
three Step-Grandsons, Jeremy Skinner, BJ and Wesley Salter; one Step
Great-Grandson, and two Step Great-Granddaughters.
Marvin graduated from Pensacola High School in 1948, then served in the
Navy. He worked for The Area Housing Commission for 48 years, retiring
after an illness.
Marvin lived in Pensacola most of his life, playing in several Country &
Western Bands. His love of music ranged the while spectrum - with
Hawaiian music being his favorite.
He loved to travel, which he did a lot until his health deteriorated.
Marvin never met a stranger.
Marvin was a member of The Pensacola Baptist Temple, but attended Myrtle
Grove Baptist Church.
The funeral will be held at 12:00 (noon) on Thursday, June 11, at
Oaklawn Funeral Home with visitation at 11:00 am - one hour preceding
the services.
Burial will be held at Union Hill Cemetery on Fairfield Drive following
the services.
Pallbearers will be his six Nephews.
Services will be officiated by Rev. David Scurlock and Dr Alton Butler.
The family would like to thank Dr. Axley, Dr Alsheikh, the VA Clinic of
Pensacola, and Dr. Kincaid for all the care given to Marvin.
Marvin will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
"You are gone but never forgotten For you live within all our hearts".
