Richard Louis Burt, age 61, of Pensacola, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, in his Pensacola residence of an extended illness. He was born October 12, 1944 in Meridian, Mississippi.

Richard joined the U.S. Navy on June 12, 1962 after graduation from Meridian High School. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1989 from Corry Station, Pensacola, after serving USS Essex and Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carriers and various U.S. Navy destroyers. He then worked as a tax preparer and instructor for H & R Block, an assistant Manager at Labor Finders and as the Financial Secretary at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church for the last 9 years. He was a member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, Pensacola, since 1980, the VFW and a committee member for the Wall South Foundation. He loved golfing and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hiram L. Burt; grandparents, Thad and Nicie Hodgin; and grandparents, John & Elsie Burt.

His survivors include a wife, Margaret Moseley Burt, Pensacola; son, Christopher A. Burt, Milton; daughter, Karla Burt Petrie (husband, Erik), Panama City, FL; mother, Elnora Hodgin Burt, Columbia, SC; sister, Cerita Burt Loftis (husband, Charles), Columbia, SC; brother, Thad N. Burt (wife, Julie), Valdosta, GA; nephew, Andrew Loftis, Columbia, SC; and nieces, Hannah Burt, Valdosta, GA and Marissa Burt, Valdosta, GA.

Visitation will be at OAK LAWN FUNERAL HOME from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2006. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 12 at 11:45 a.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery, with the Rev. David Scurlock and Dr. Al Butler officiating.
